There's nothing like a good burger, and on Father's Day, you want to make sure dad gets the best of the best. This Vidalia onion relish is the perfect topping for his special burger.
The bourbon adds a lovely caramel note, while the crushed pepper flakes turn up the heat. Furthermore, it is sure to please even the pickiest diners.

Ingredients
4 big sliced sweet onions
2 tbsp of canola oil
3 minced garlic cloves
⅓ cup bourbon
4 peeled, seeded, and chopped plum tomatoes
½ cup golden raisins
¼ cup of sugar
¼ cup dark brown sugar, packed
¼ cup apple cider vinegar
1 tsp mustard seeds
½ tsp of salt
½ tsp turmeric powder
½ tsp mustard powder
½ teaspoon red pepper flakes, crushed
¼ tsp black pepper
cooked sausage or your choice of meat
Directions
Cook onions in oil in a large saucepan over medium heat for 40-45 minutes or until golden brown, stirring periodically.
Cook for another 1 minute after adding the garlic.
Turn off the heat.
Stir in the bourbon to release the browned bits from the pan.
Bring to a boil with the remaining ingredients. Reduce heat to low and cook uncovered for 15-20 minutes, or until thickened.
Refrigerate in sealed containers for up to 1 week. Serve with sausage or another type of meat.
