Dish Drainer Racks Buying Guide

  • Size

Choosing a dish drying rack appropriate for your present and future requirements is crucial. When selecting a dish rack, consider the space on your countertop. A tiny one will suffice if you live alone and don't plan on hosting guests.

It's a nicer option to buy something big-enough, such as this two-tier model with extra compartments for other dinnerware and cookware to dry if you host dinner parties or live with others who use more than their plates simultaneously.

  • Stability and Anti-Slip

It's safer to invest in a robust type, especially since you use it daily. A unit with locking legs is highly suggested. Keep your valuable plates secure by keeping them firmly on the sink surface.

  • Elevation

The extra height of the dish rack will be convenient for you. When draining the dish rack, look for a model with elevated legs or a base so that your utensils, pots, and pans are not on the countertop and bacteria build-up is avoided.

  • Material

When selecting a dish rack, it is critical to consider which material is simpler to clean. Before purchasing, inspect the rack material. A dish rack is made of two materials: plastic and stainless steel.

Plastic is a lightweight material that does not discolor easily. But there's a catch: it's brittle. Stainless steel racks do not have these issues. They are well-made and simple to clean. It comes at the expense of being costly, and some low-quality tend to rust.

  • Placement

You'll need to figure out where you want the rack to go. There are three options: inside the sink, on either side, or above the sink. It is determined by whether you are left- or right-handed or how much space you have. The side-mounted ones have a sink-oriented spout that will not stain your countertops.

Dish Drying Rack FAQ

Dish Drying Rack

1. Are bamboo dish racks sanitary?

Bamboo cutting boards and dish drainers are common kitchen equipment and accessories. It is due to bamboo's natural antimicrobial qualities. On the other hand, bacteria and mold can grow on bamboo surfaces over time. You should regularly remove mold and soap scum from bamboo dish drainers to prevent them from growing.

2. What do you typically put under a dish rack?

You may put a dish rack with legs on your counter near the sink if you have one. If you have a dish rack that you will place on the sink, you'll need to lay something beneath it to collect the water runoff. A towel or an old bath mat would suffice for this.

3. How do you clean a plastic drainer?

After pouring white vinegar on the mineral deposits, scrub them with a scrub brush. Continue scrubbing while adding vinegar as needed. Sterilize an old toothbrush and scrape the slats to remove the limescale from between the rack's slats.

4. Is a dish rack really necessary?

More dishwashing is involved when you cook more food at home. However, if you don't have a dishwasher and want to hand-clean your plates and pots, you'll need a dish rack since it's doubtful that you'd want to dry and store all of your dishes at once.

5. Why is my stainless steel dish rack rusting?

When metal is left exposed to water, it begins to rust. If cutlery with a sharp edge, such as knives and forks, is placed on the dish rack, it will promote the development of rust and mildew.

To avoid this, make sure they're completely dry after each usage, and don't let them sit in water or damp places. To keep the metal from oxidizing, you may also apply a light coating of vegetable oil to it.

Conclusion

With so many different dish drainer racks on the market, it can be tough to know which one is right for you. The Kitchen Aid Full-Size Dish Rack, which has high sides for compact stacking and a detachable silverware tray, is an all-purpose rack that will last you a long time.

The GSlife Stainless Steel 2 Tier Dish Rack will take care of all your storage needs by taking advantage of the vertical space in your kitchen. While Fixparts Roll Up Dish Drying Rack is compact and foldable, it is a must-have if you are a traveler or have a small kitchen.

  • I am really happy with the fully stainless dish rack from Zojila. Not only does it have great capacity and lifetime warranty but it also looks fabulous

  • After hours of checking out dish racks on numerous sites, I really miss the old Rubbermaid rack that if I could find at a second hand store I’d pick up. The newer model they make now not made in USA has thin wire that bends.. Don’t remember how long it took to rust. Most racks will rust except if they’re make of plastic which has other issues.
